JetBlue Airways plans to add daily service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito.
The low-cost carrier said this week that the service is subject to government approval but is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2016.
JetBlue already serves 37 destinations directly from Fort Lauderdale with as many as 85 flights a day. The airline plans to increase that number to 100 flights a day.
“We’re proud to continue to grow our Fort Lauderdale focus city, a major gateway to the Latin America region,” Dave Clark, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning, said in a statement. “Demand for travel to Ecuador has been growing strongly, especially after extensive promotional efforts by the country’s officials.”
